Anne Fogarty

Anne Fogarty was an American designer who started her design career in 1948 working for Youth Guild, a label that catered to teenagers in the 1950s and 60s. Her dresses commonly had fitted bodices and full skirts with crinolines, but after 1956, her look narrowed somewhat, with longer, straighter skirts. She began doing designs exclusively for Saks Fifth Avenue in 1957 and in 1959 she wrote the book, Wife Dressing, in which she gave advice on how to dress to please a man. In 1962 Fogarty opened her own design house, Anne Fogarty, Inc where she expanded her lines to include sportswear and ensembles, but she was still best known for her dresses. In the 1960s, the Empire style of dress was a favorite of Anne's and she became more adventurous in her designs towards the end of her career showing everything from caftans to hot pants in her collections.
