Bob Mackie

Bob Mackie began his career as a Hollywood costuming sketch artist, working for both Edith Head and Jean Louis. He soon began creating on- and off-screen evening clothing for the actresses who would make him a household name, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Carol Burnett, Diana Ross and most famously, Cher. He started his own ready-to-wear line in 1982 but sadly presented his last runway show in 1992, when his business folded. Mackie is often called the Sultan of Sequins, known for his sparkling and imaginative costume designs. He has won nine Emmy Awards for his designs, and was thrice nominated for an Academy Award. He is best known for his glamorous evening wear and furs.
