Vivienne Westwood
One of the most eccentric British designers to emerge in the 1970s, Vivienne Westwood is famous for being an integral part of the Punk Rock movement in London and for her anti-Establishment stance and how it translated into her collections. Victorian corsets, mini kilts, torn t shirts, bondage inspired clothing and cone shaped bras are some of her most iconic runway looks. Westwood opened her West End boutique, Sex, in 1970 and her safety pin adorned bondage pieces flew off the shelves. Over the decades, her style has morphed several times but always is a combination of traditional methods with modernity and undisguised irony that cause shock waves throughout the fashion industry.
