Pink Spring 2008 Floral Neoprene Coat Dress

A tour-de-force from Nicolas Ghesquière’s sculptural Spring 2008 collection, this couture-level mini coat-dress reinterprets one of Cristóbal Balenciaga’s 1961 florals through an utterly modern, technical lens. Part of the permanent collection at Palais Galliera in Paris

Fabric & Print – Glossy silk-radzimir laminated to neoprene, creating an architectural handle that holds the garment’s cocooned lines. The explosive pink-and-ink abstract bloom is “Edition 1961E,” a runway revival of a Summer-’61 Balenciaga print.

Exaggerated Volume – Structured raglan shoulders sweep into a bubbled back, echoing the house’s iconic stand-away plays on volume from the 1960s.

Sculpted Waistband – A low-slung integrated belt defines the silhouette before breaking into a subtly A-line mini skirt.

Utility Couture Details –
• Front chest flap with right-side pocket
• Twin seam-set hip pockets
• Six oversize covered buttons accent the sleeves; a hidden five-button placket and snap fasten the front beneath a clean flap.

Raw-cut Edges & Piped Seams – Laser-sharp finishes emphasize Ghesquière’s precision tailoring while keeping the lines graphic and modern.
Equal parts 1960s couture homage and futurist craftsmanship, this piece is a collector’s grail from one of Ghesquière’s most conceptually riveting seasons at Balenciaga.
