SS 2006 Runway Baroque Silk Jacquard Pant Suit
A statement of sculptural tailoring and ornate precision, this archival two-piece suit from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring/Summer 2006 collection for Balenciaga is one of the designer’s most theatrical runway moments. Worn on the catwalk and featured in the campaign lensed by David Sims, the set reflects Ghesquière’s bold juxtaposition of baroque opulence with modernist minimalism.
The fitted blazer, cut in lustrous grey silk twill jacquard, is intricately woven with a silver floral paisley motif. Structured shoulders and a sharply tailored waist lead into flared cuffs and cutaway lapels, trimmed in satin tuxedo detailing. The front closes with midnight-blue lacquered buttons, each embossed with a signature arachnid crest, and fastens with a metallic chainlink clasp—a nod to both armor and ornament.
The matching trousers are low-waisted and slim through the leg, featuring elaborate appliqué at the waist and belt loops. The baroque pattern continues seamlessly through the fabric, finishing in a cropped ankle hem for a modern silhouette.
A masterclass in historic reference reimagined, this suit is a collector’s treasure—both directional and timeless.
